This is a powerful piece, Rachael. It really got me thinking about Ai, and how it will change in the world in a way that other articles haven't. I'm a sucker for optimism, and so I'm hoping that it does more good than harm. I'm hoping we creatives can work with AI to make the world a better place, instead of deepening inequalities.
As a writer, I just wanted to point out this line. - "His lyrics raked his fingers through my hair and tucked a loose strand behind my ear." - The imagery here is amazing. I fell in love with this piece the moment I read this.
Oh thank you so much, Ishan. I err on the side of optimism too. I've learned to not let macro things like the future of tech or politics drag me into cynical or nihilistic thinking. I love how you bring out the positivity, beauty, and wonder of the world through your photography.
I'm a fairly unmusical dinosaur and hadn't heard of Drake. So I looked him up and the first song title that caught my eye was "Know Thyself" from "If you're reading this it's too late." And the first lines that caught my eye were these.
I love this, Rick. The fact that you checked him out after reading this made me smile. It's cool to read your initial reaction and the song title that first resonated with you. Drake is known for being life-affirming to a degree that people criticize him for it. But as someone who identifies as life-affirming, I like him for it.
Awesome piece, Rach. Love the finished product. This makes me think of so many things. Some you know about, from our conversations. Other ones come up anew. But I won’t clog your comment section with them. :) Thank you for this!
Thank you, Silvio. Our discussions around AI, emotion, craft, and music shaped this piece. Your writing about music, especially, has helped me deepen my own relationship with music.
Excellent Note , Rachel on AI music - AI music is here to stay and humans are adaptable - the musicians will adapt and create even better music and a separate customer micro segment will be created who crave for human curated music .
Thanks, Hari, for reading and sharing your perspective. I agree, we'll see hyper-curation in the music industry. It makes me wonder if the concept of "monoculture" will disappear
Beautiful, provocative read. I liked this: what happens when you compare yourself to the AI version of yourself?
Thank you for reading, Sadia!

"Pray the real live forever, man
Pray the fakes get exposed"
I'm with Drake right there.

Critizing people who are life-affirming can’t be good karma.
